Fault inversion contributes to ground deformation above inflating igneous sills

چکیده

Magma emplacement is commonly accommodated by uplift of the overburden and free surface. By assuming this deformation purely elastic, we can invert shape kinematics ground to model geometry dynamics underlying intrusions. However, magma be viscoelastic and/or inelastic processes. We use 3D seismic reflection data reconstruct how elastic bending processes a Late Jurassic sill offshore NW Australia. restore syn-emplacement compare its relief thickness, showing that: (i) where they are equal, intrusion; but (ii) thickness greater, inversion pre-existing fault compaction contributed accommodation. Our results support work suppress deformation, demonstrate magmatism modify displacements. Reflection seismology thus powerful tool for unravelling links between emplacement, faulting.

Forest above Ground Biomass Inversion by Fusing GLAS with Optical Remote Sensing Data

Forest biomass is an important parameter for quantifying and understanding biological and physical processes on the Earth’s surface. Rapid, reliable, and objective estimations of forest biomass are essential to terrestrial ecosystem research. The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) produced substantial scientific data for detecting the vegetation structure at the footprint level. This stud...

Zooplankton Aggregations Near Sills

The primary goal during FY01/02 was to quantitatively assess zooplankton distributions and species in Knight Inlet, with special focus on the sill near Hoeya Head. This area has been the subject of considerable ONR-sponsored oceanographic research in the past focused on the stratified flow features induced by the sill (e.g. Farmer and Armi 1999; Klymak and Gregg 2001). Echo-sounder surveys perf...

The longer data spans give reliable results as well as less standard deviation for residuals. Using the single-frequency receiver, the standard deviation of the residuals is the same for all three sto...
